First One Day Church near Bukavu, DR Congo
In the small village of Nyatende, 10 Km South of Bukavu, a “one” day church was built in 11 hours. This came about because there were 21 participants helping with construction and with food preparation. The members and others contributed to the cost of building materials and land. At this time the church building consists of a metal roof. It is large enough to host 90 members. The current membership is 15 and 5 more are studying the Bible waiting for baptism. It is nice to see the faith of these members to build a church large enough for more new members to join. A Bible worker has been in this village for 1 year and preaching the gospel.
Train Them 2 Fish contributed $600 of the budget; local members paid for the transportation of building materials, a special guest working with an international NGO paid the remaining cost, including the land. The total cost of this church was less than $3,000.
It is very encouraging to see the local people investing their time and money to build a church and more money is needed for additional churches like these. I’m sure it was a real sacrifice for them.
